The magic violins of Marta Kushnirskaya
Only violins will break the silence...
The artistic director of the ensemble is the famous violinist Marta Kushnirskaya. Precedently she worked in the Bolshoi Theatre Violin Ensemble during 15 years. She retains succession and still continuous and develops traditions of this celebrated collective of musicians.
Today the Marta Kushnirskaya ensemble is the only group of professional violinists that appear on stage without a conductor and play by heart, synchronously and it seems to the listener that it is one big violin playing. During the years of its concert activity the ensemble accompanied such famous singers – soloists of the Bolshoi Theatre as Irina Apkhipova, Zurab Sotkilava, Elena Zelenskaya, Marina Shutova and others.
The magic of music...
“The violin exerts strong emotional influence upon its listener, but this influence becomes much stronger when some violins with theirs different voices play together. The popular repertoire and the high professional skill of our musicians generate harmonious unity of performers and audience”.
Marta Kushnirskaya
The repertoire of the violinists ensemble is accessible to a general audience and embraces the hits of classical music (Vivaldi, Brahms, Paganini, Tchaikovsky, Mozart), popular music and jazz (Moria, Miller, Kaempfert, Dassin, Warren), famous soundtracks (Legrand, Dunaevsky, Chaplin, Shostakovitch, Doga, Khachaturian), fantasias on folk songs and also the pieces written by well-known composers specially for the ensemble. The great majority of the arrangements are made by talented jazz pianist, composer and arranger Yury Gurevitch.
